SC Relics - From the spray booth

Open up the brand new edition of Guitarist Magazine today and guess who's ugly mug i see looking back at me? That's right, you @Lonestar !!! I've left the magazine right where it belongs, in the bathroom, in easy reach of the toilet.... ;) Seriously Scott, awesome job. I look forward to reading...

The 'What's your latest purchase' thread (or 'I'm a shameless consumer')

Sadly nothing exciting! If you pre-ordered you went in the credits. It's a really good read but I think it goes too far up it's arse when he goes on about the source of his inspiration.

The 'What's your latest purchase' thread (or 'I'm a shameless consumer')

Yep. Had the pleasure of Casualties of Cool, Ziltoid at the Royal Albert Hall and the entirety of Ocean Machine in Hammersmith. As you say, you never know when it's the last chance to see something. Plus, my name is in the book credits......

Evaluation help for selling my guitar.

Sometimes £62 is everything you really need right now. Other times, a free guitar is just that. I've got more than a few items out on loan, stuff that I'll likely never see again but when you know there's no point holding on to it, it's better off gone.

    Thoughts on Gear and GAS

Interesting, I wish I could find a way to make the splits in my guitars sound better to my ears. Sadly when I last asked the aforementioned member for wiring advice, he supplied a link to a Seymour Duncan PDF (not that they were SDs) and told me if I wanted further advice I would have to pay him.

    NGD: Stoney creek custom made

It did take a little fettling when I put a p90 and humbucker in the same guitar but the result is definitely worth it! Lovely guitar by the way!

    Thoughts on Gear and GAS

I have coil splits on most of my guitars and never use them. They sound like weak humbuckers to my ears, never like a good single coil. If I'm playing live, I'll fudge it with a humbucker as no one can really hear much over the drums and bass anyway. In the studio, I'll just use a proper...

The "What pissed you off today" thread

@Wade Garrett mate, hope you and Kerry are holding up. As to what I came here for originally, this is just why I get annoyed with people that are so proud of their divisive opinions..... It's usually based on bullshit. ---------------------------------------------------------------------...

Making Do - How have folks gotten by on a tight budget?

I completely understand, my guitars all make me play in different ways and that can bring out something different when I'm trying to be creative. What I'm trying to say it's that it can be very healthy to be brutally honest with ourselves and really try to understand our gear habits. We...

Making Do - How have folks gotten by on a tight budget?

I'm pretty sure I said just that! ;) And added that's it might be short lived, if acquiring new gear is integral to being inspired to play then I foresee issues.

Making Do - How have folks gotten by on a tight budget?

This whole thread brings me back to the whole GAS conundrum. Many of us look to gear to be the inspiration, to provide us with the reason the play when I can't help but think it's wrong and often unhealthy. Whilst a funky delay pedal can inspire a new riff or three (not an exhaustive list, other...

    will kemper kill amp gas?

When I got mine, i spent ages buying commercial profiles of amps I really like; a couple of Orange amps, plenty of Marshalls, some Friedmans and Mesas. Most of the time I sat wondering who thought these tones were usable, let alone great. How did they make them sound that bad? They sounded like...

    Thoughts on Gear and GAS

I use my Kemper direct to FOH at gigs, to IEMs, to either the PA or my cab at band practice, to my desktop monitors or headphones at home and also to my DAW via Spdif. I've a full set up cables left in situ at home so the first thing I do after bringing in my gear in from band practice is to...

Making Do - How have folks gotten by on a tight budget?

I started with a £100 guitar, a distortion pedal into a keyboard amp. Hell, i gigged that setup and it sounded terrible. One should never hold gear as vital to being able to play.

Gibson's shooting themselves in the foot again

I've heard a number of artists talk about the benefits of Evertune bridges, mostly about the time spent tuning. I've never analysed how often I tune when recording but I know that as the front man in a band, tuning my guitar is a total buzz kill. Having a guitar always in tune can only be a good...

David Gilmour’s Black Strat (and others) up for auction...

At some stage he had an XLR fitted on the side (like a Telecaster or Les Paul's jack socket) to allow longer cable runs.

David Gilmour’s Black Strat (and others) up for auction...

Not wishing to sound like a douche, i knew that but omitted it for the purpose of making a stupid point..... I love details like this though, at times it counters some of the trappage of gear snobbery. Recently there was a guy searching for advice on the Kemper group for a perfect tone for On...

Riff City parting ways with Chapman Guitars

I've no experience with GC however I've experienced shocking service and attitude from staff in small, family owned stores.

Gibson's shooting themselves in the foot again

The latest Guitarist magazine has Jimmy Page's signature Telecaster and it mentions very briefly that it had completely missed set-up and QC in the factory. For a model to send out to the press. For about £2k. In an earlier issue, they were checking out a new Les Paul and devoted a large...
