Don't know if it's already been mentioned, but http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/ is a beast of a shop, used it a few times now and highly recommend it. They've got a huge list of different strings (cool if you want to explore something other than EB, D'Addario or Rotosound) and offer free shipping if you spend something like over a tenner (couple of packs does it). First class post too, each time I've ordered I've had the strings the NEXT day. Awesome all round service, I wouldn't go anywhere else for strings now (especially as I'm currently hooked on GHS's)!

Guitar Village, Farnham

<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.guitarvillage.co.uk">www.guitarvillage.co.uk</a><!-- w -->

Items bought:
Ibanez SZR720
Laney LX20R
Assorted odds and ends - picks, strings, setups

I can't praise these guys enough. Every time I've gone in there I've had nothing but fantastic service. I got my first guitar from them, and unlike some of the larger shops I went to I didn't feel at all intimidated going in there when I couldn't play a thing bar a couple of chords. The staff were very knowledgeable about the products they were selling and gave me plenty of time and advice to help me get a guitar I felt comfortable with. I've also been in there for odds and ends, strings and such and had my guitars setup there. Again the guys were really helpful and very fast to get it turned around (in fact did a setup whilst I was there messing about on some amps).

Any experiences with:

Could be interesting - at least for me to decide if they fail or not ;)

Took my order for a pickup and money for next day delivery and I waited....and waited...and waited...for five days before ringing and saying "Wheres my pickup?" to which they said that even though it was showing in stock they didnt have it as the website is "Going through changes" I said well doesnt anyone check that they're actually there when an order comes in and maybe ring or mail me?

Apparently not....morons.

Visited a new guitar shop in my town that opened at the beginning of last month, only visited it once so I thought I'll give my first impressions of it.

Here's the website link: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.richardsguitars.co.uk">http://www.richardsguitars.co.uk</a><!-- m -->

I have mixed impressions about the place - good that they distributed and sold a different brand to what we normally have in our local music shop, where they have PRS SE, Fender, Ibanez etc, and this new shop had Cort, Godin, and they even had a Rob Williams custom guitar on sale as well, so they look like they sell mainly mid range guitars with the odd high or low end. They don't look like they sell amps though - only have Kustom amps for trying guitars out. The guy who ran it, Richard seemed like an okay guy, although he gave me the impression that he mainly distributes his guitars online/abroad, and not many people walk into the shop; if he wanted to do that, he might as well just have a warehouse, unless he wanted the shop for publicity and to try more walkins. I was initially going to see if they have any jobs going, as I went with CV in hand. But he gave the impression that he is quite controlling, a perfectionist, and that he usually works on his own - and the guitar techies looked a bit dodgy and old (in a bad way).

Nevertheless, it was good to peek into a new guitar shop, and good that it's different to the normal music shop we have. I would probably give it a 3-3.5/5 for my first impression? It might become better, but still :) I shall see what happens if I ever buy something like a guitar in there.

Rob Williams guitars are expensive in the UK?
Yep they are. I was saying they sell mainly mid range guitars, but they have a couple of high end guitars as well, such as the Rob Williams guitar. Hope that made sense :)

I finally got the chance to try the RGA32 I've been gassing for for a while.
- bit disappointing really.
I quite liked the feel of the guitar but really disliked the sound of the Loz actives. Apparantly these ones have the most output from the Loz range, but I thought it sounded crap.
I dont know if it was mainly down to the crappy 50w Line 6 amp (I tried every setting/effect too)that the guy insisted I use or what, but I was pretty sure I was going to buy this axe anyway before I'd tried, but now I'm not so sure.
yet another shit Dolphin shop experience

(maybe I should of posted this elsewhere)

DV247. Very honourable with their pricematch policy. Can recommend highly.
if you're in full time education, email DV before you buy - they do some really good discounts sometimes...

I recently went into a shop in Dublin called Musicmaker and asked if they had any Marshall Class 5's

The guy behind the counter turns to his computer and looks it up on Google images!

He couldnt understand why i started laughing and asked me to leave!
