Shop Experience Thread

After a quick conversation in another thread I thought it would be a cool idea to make a sticky where we can discuss our positive and negative experiences of certain shops. If you post your shop 'review' I will link to it in this opening post.

GAK
www.guitarampkeyboard.com

Items bought
Hughes & Kettner Trilogy
Hughes & Kettner VC412
Various Pedals
A Few studio related things

I have ordered from GAK about five times in total now and I for one have never had a bad experience. I have often heard people have had bad experiences with GAK, but not me. Shipping has always been very fast and very cheap, usually capped at about a tenner. Customer service has also been great in my experience. Definitely recommended.

Items Bought
Various Microphones
Various Rackmount Equipment

My experiences with DV247 have been mixed. I have ordered about four times and two of those times I have had a pleasant time where my items came within a few days with little or no hassle. The other few times my items have NEVER came. For about two weeks I received no email until I contacted customer services myself and then I was told 'Your Item Is Out Of Stock, expect delivery in a few months,' and little in the way of a personal reply or a 'sorry.' The thing with DV is that they do not have a message stating whether an item is in or out of stock and this can be, and has been infuriating. Twice this has happened, once with a Samson Power Conditioner and once with a Tc Electronics G Sharp rack unit.
Now I only use DV if I cannot find the product elsewhere, and I contact them first to make sure the item is in stock.

I've ordered my tube amp on DV, price is really lower than in france for all UK / US stuff, and there are no extra fees because it's still in EU. I found the support really good, fast and all, I'd recomand them.

Thomann and Woodbrass are good too, I buy my little things there (stand, strings, various little stuff)

Well, I've used DV before and all the above reviews seem about right...

Dolphin Music
http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/
Items Purchased:
Vox Big Bad Wah
Various Cables, Picks and a Tuner

Very helpful, with a helpful website, a good, functional pricebeat and quick deliveries - they also answer any emails, very quickly, which is always a big + in my books. Only one thing - as the newb me discovered, stay away from Dolphin's 'own brand' cables - even the best ones are extremely poor quality and break quickly.

Ah, talking about brand cable, I'd recomand Thomann's "CORDIAL" brand, they are really good (Ernesto advised me to buy some), and REAALLY cheap (30cm -> 2€66). The only drawback is the very big connector that takes some space on the pedal board, try it with one if you ever buy something from thomann, and buy the rest if you don't mind the big connector.

Items bought:
Guitars, amps, pedals.

My No.1 store for mail order gear, very communicative and very helpful, when they say they've got something, they've got it and it goes out that day, not the cheapest around but they have a great range and charge what they do in store as online, reassuring.
Even when I had a slight issue they were willing to completely replace the gear no questions.

Items bought:
Vox Satchurator
Vox Time Machine
Peavey Vypyr 75
Ibanez JS100
Ibanez RGR321eX
Various tuners, haha.
Lots of cables
Lots of picks
Guitar bags

Helpful staff, definitely well stocked and they're willing to order literally anything in for you. They have in store guitar/amp specialists (so it aint just random people who work at a random shop), a few soundproofed rooms for trying equipment and the prices aren't that bad.
Don't quite know what else to say, haha. My main shop for music.

Items brought:

TC Electronic Nova Repeater
TC Electronic Nova Modulator

My first purchase was the Nova Repeater. Very reasonably priced, with free delivery with any item over £100. The delivery is pretty quick too, next day if you time the order right. But when it came to order the second pedal the Nova Modulator, the free delivery had been changed to items over £200. But the pedal was still very reasonably priced even with the added delivery charge. But the prices do change in certain months, I was lucky to catch the Modulator for £150, it's now £219 so keep an eye on the deals..

Dolphin Music

Ordered a Dunlop grommet strap, a pack of Jazz IIIs and some D'Addario strings from them.
Solid customer service, quick delivery, highly recommended.

GAK

Ordered a Line6 POD Studio, a Shure microphone, Planet Waves cable, D'Addario strings, Planet Waves string winder/cutter, guitar cleaners, picks, and probably other things too.
Stuff always arives in good condition and fairly quickly, highly recommended.

Bought:
Bugera 333XL:
This was fantastic, they didn't have one in stock so they ordered one in for me without taking a deposit like the normally do so I could just have a go on it. On the day it came in one of the blokes at the shop called me up to let me know it was in and asked if I wanted it hooked up to a cab and what kind of guitar I'd like to try through it. All before I'd even committed to buying it!

Monitors, Headphones, MIDI keyboard:
Went to the shop, none of them in stock so they put an order together for me. Delivered less than 18 hours later to my door and I got a text letting me know what time it would be delivered, plus they threw in 4 decent metal cased leads as well

On order: Ibanez RGA8
None of their branches have this at the moment but the moment they get hold of one it's coming to my local branch for me and me alone :D

Contrary to your experiences, Adam, I've only used GAK twice, and both times have been left to wait extensivley on shipping. First transaction was a Grip Studios Custom Guitar Hanger which I had to wait a couple of weeks for, and now, more recently, I ordered an M-Audio Axiom Midi Controller. This was well over a month ago, and it's only just gone off for shipping on Friday, still not arrived. They've got a huge range of products, but suffice to say, I won't be dealing with them again, which is a shame

Yep, I ordered a Jackson from them a few years ago, took about 3 months to get to me and had customs stamps from about fourteen different countries

well, i haven't had much experience with online retailers (save buying picks, strings and stuff from musician's friend), nor am i in merry old ingerland, but if any of you guys are ever in the bay area and feel like acquiring some gear, do check out Rocker Guitars and Gelb Music.

great selection, great staff, both are a fine alternative to guitar center which, despite its enormity, is pretty lackluster imo.

a trip to rocker guitars is a bit like visiting someone in prison however, not in the greatest neighborhood, so the storefront is blank and the dudes have to buzz you in through the iron gate. :D

but once you get inside, it's like entering the sunken city of rock & roll.

That bird on the Rocker's website does look a bit ghetto :D
