I’m not one to hang about on things.
    Life’s short
    Gomez sold fast
And Guitar Guitar sales end in January.
    So yeah.
This morning, Mitch and I went up to GG and after an hour of playing and listening and playing and thinking and more playing and the glow in my heart getting STRONGER BY THE SECOND
    I came home with this...

    Not forgetting the trem...

I’ve talked elsewhere about the weight factor in why I got shot of Gomez (9.5lbs. Yeah. AND weight relieved!), the line in the sand moment being when I realised that I couldn’t carry him in his case to the station - which is half a mile from my house on the flat. I had to wait to get the sodding bus. And, no matter how beautiful a guitar is? When you can’t comfortably play it never mind take it anywhere? It has to go.
Happily, the CE24 come in at a 7.6lbs and is beautifully balanced; a factor that always adds to the “lightness” of a guitar IMO.
When I played this guitar for the first time a few days ago several things had my jaw hanging off at the hinges.
The humbuckers. The humbuckers on this axe are PRS’s 81/15 set and they are the best sounding humbuckers I’ve ever heard. Yep. Fact. For the first time in AGES I found myself playing a neck humbucker that doesn’t go to mush when you heap on the gain but retains a crispness and clarity (probably helped by the bolt on neck - I’m a big fan of that btw:)) that makes it eminently useable even when the tone is rolled down to the chilly end. I did a bit of reading and it seems PRS have cut out the low mids on these pickups and “YOU BLOODY LEGENDS!” is the shout from Helensburgh. They are clear, articulate but never harsh or spikey...very single coil voiced but with a bit more warmth and fatness to them, is my best description. Splitting them brings a single coil sound that actually sounds like a single coil! Imagine! There’s genius at work here guys. Or a shit load of good drugs. Either/or. :)
The neck. “Pattern thin” turns out to be my favourite PRS neck profile and this is what the CE24 bears. Add in the satin finish and dammit, it’s a tough guitar to put down. The upper fret access is superb and @Wade Garrett have no fears - you’d shred your face off with ease if you picked one of these up. Hell yes.:cold:
The trem. It’s solid. It’s elegant. It lets you do everything from soft detunes to CRAAAAAZY batshit divebombs. And it stays in tune. In fact, the guitar was still in tune when it got home. Even a freezing jaunt through Glasgow in a gig bag and the uncomfortably hot sweaty train journey home had no impact. Another “hell, yes” from the Syrett corner.
The build quality. GLORIOUS. Yes. Oh my. Oh MY. *happy sigh*:)
Did mention PRS decided in their infinitesimal wisdom to give this particular Limited Edition colour (Scarlet Sunburst) an ebony fretboard? No? Oh. Well, they did. WIN. I’ve never owned an axe with an ebony fretboard before. It’s a lovely thing to brush your finger tips against. Mmmmmm...:cold:
The finish. I’ve always been put off by the gloss, highly flamed or OTT quilt finishes on PRS guitars. They’re just not me. Mad as it might sound, I feel they’re too GOOD for me! And that level of beauty creates a distance in my head that becomes a problem when I want to connect with an axe and write music on it. The satin finish, the muted flame and the lack of bling on this guitar made all of those “we don’t fit together” feelings go away. Don’t get me wrong; it’s a BEAUTIFUL instrument! But it’s not yelling at me about it all the time or endlessly pointing out that if I ever got careless and dinged it “YOU’D RUIN ME!”. I feel relaxed around it. And that my friends, is a VERY important feeling for me when I want to dig in and play my heart out. To put it another way, I don’t feel I need to be polite around it. And that it’s ready to be slung in a gig bag and have its face jammed off by me at a dingy rehearsal room in Glasgow somewhere. Game ON!
Aaaand, red is my favourite colour for most types of guitar! But weirdly, I haven’t owned a red guitar in years; it’s just not happened. So the scarlet of this is a LOVELY bonus. There were three colours to choose from but no contest once I saw this one.
As we like to say in Scotland, “it’s an absolute BELTER!”.
    :)

    .
    ..
    ...
    And yes.
    All of this reminds me,
I need to go book an appointment.
    ;)
I’m due for my next dental check up...
    :D

Awesome! I love ebony fretboards. They are my very favorite both aesthetically and in feel.

Great score! I love my PRS CE-24. I've no doubt you'll just find more to love with yours over time. And that's a lovely color (colour).

    That's a friggin' stunning beast.
Love the satin finish. I'm not a fan of the super-gloss quilting either.
    Ya done good.

    Thanks everyone.
    He’s an IMMENSE guitar!
And if you want to hear that bridge humbucker
I’m knocking out a high gain riff over on the 1 riff a day challenge

Congrats on the killer new CE.
Big fan of the finish and the overall looks.
Hits all the right marks for a solid, all-around spec.
Glad you got along well with it.

Now play the crap out of it and make it sound worth it's (light) weight.

Damn, that looks great! I must admit that I've been looking at those with a certain amount of lust with the current price reductions, even though I generally have vowed not to buy any more guitars (except possibly for a PRS Hollowbody at some point in the future. And maybe one of the Satch models. Etcetera.). Love the colour too.

Pattern Thin is my favourite neck profile too, it's just so comfortable!

Many thumbs up from here, and I hope you have a blast with it!
