Yeah, you had a lucky escape
Awesome rig there - thanks for the inspiration
I’m thinking I’m gonna list my helix and use the proceeds to fund a new cab so I can run a stereo dmoll / 5153 rig
You must be very well paid.
Good news - the fan is really easy to change. Its a super common size.....Bad news - its a 24v fan.
Cushioning the fan mounts had zero effect. Its a noisy fan.
Ordered a new one to see if it might be quieter.
What size is it, mate?
That’s rather personal Rob.
Hey now, I did not ask about flow rate.
Existing fan is 24V, 80x80x25mm, 38db. My new one is 12db. Same flow rate.
Interim valve porn...
The innards were (almost) completely dust free (brushed away what was there) which was interesting as the box is fairly open with only the top/bottom/front not made of mesh, and its 20 years old according to the serial number.
I’m looking at the bottom pic and imagining those power valves are like 30 feet tall and I’m like 3 feet tall and the valves are all like glowing an eerie shade of green and the throbbing hum of electrons can be felt in my chest and then my pants fall off and then, and then. O I’m sorry I’m thinking this out loud again aren’t I.
See those arrows that look like they’re made of lightening?
And I mean ANYTHING
That needs a set of those on it is immediately awesome in my book...
*waits for knob jokes*
Dear sir you may have an addiction....
You KNOW you have to buy two though, right?
Symmetry in all things being paramount.
You risk losing your mind otherwise...
Interesting, been looking at vertical 212s a lot lately....this doesn’t help
Those cabs are known not to be made well, my friend.
I had the opportunity to meet her in 1996, and I opted not to volunteer (she was doing an independent research project for school) because school typically wiped me out. I do not regret that decision, even in retrospect, because she would have left me with unrealistic expectations.
Changed the fan. Much quieter, and it blows like the 20 year old.... one did.
It still makes a sound which gets amplified by the back panel which is not fixed in place (by design), but it now damped with some felt.
The Code cabs may be interesting, they are probably FR enough for the Code modeller. They are a bit on the wide side - unlike the tiny foot print / optimal speaker height / small foot print / stupidly heavy birch ply / very good looking/PA cabs.
Separate names with a comma.
