Howdy all, not as active as I used to be on the site as real world life gets in the way (especially with working away a lot) however this past weekend I bought a guitar!! First one in 2 years actually... that might be a record for me.... but anyways, the last 10 months or so I've really gotten into a certain gentleman called John Mayer (late to the party I know), and well none of my guitars (even the Tom Anderson Drop Top) really do -that- old strat thing.

So I went down to GuitarGuitar with my CE24 to trade in wanting to try a Silver Sky but its not available yet and figured I might as well try some Fenders whilst I was there and oh boy did I find the one. So behold the lastest addition, now named Georgia, this is my new Fender Custom Shop 1963 Relic Strat in Fiesta Red.

So I've never been a relic fan thats for sure, and yet I saw this and just thought it looked really really cool. I know its not for everyone, and I don't like the heavy relic stuff, but I love it. The spec is pretty stock, with the 60s neck profile and the traditional trem, 5 way selector and normal tone/volume knobs for a strat. The only difference is that this has a Texas Special in the bridge to go with the Fender 60s strat pickups in the neck/middle. Gives is a bit more grunt, which as someone who plays pretty much only humbucker guitars was very nice. I'm also not usually a fan of laquer finished necks, but this one is a dream. Traditional in terms of carve, and gives you enough but not too much wood for your hand to hold onto.

All in all a great guitar so far, and through the Two Rock profile on my Kemper I'm on Cloud 9 right now.

Let me know what you guys think, or if you have any questions :) also shoutout to GuitarGuitar in Birmingham for still being the best store I know of in the West Midlands, cannot fault their customer care/relations!!

    Cheers
    Ed :)

PS, this is also the nicest case I've ever seen.... cream tolex with orange/yellow plush inside... #guitarcasegoals :p

THAT is beautiful and exactly the spec I’d choose.
    Clay dots - check
    Rosewood board - check
    Fiesta red - check
    Modest relic - check

Full on awesome with absolutely no reservation.

GG - Birmingham is a great shop, got my Tele from them - customer care was second to none

    Niiiiiice.

Get the Morgan AC 20 profile from the rig exchange.

Surprised your Tom A didn't get the tones. What's the spec on it?

Its pretty similar spec, but HSS and with the maple cap. Woodwise its the same apart from the cap. It has the 3 position mini toggle for splitting the humbucker to single coil, but its the neck and middle pickups where its a lot more bass heavy. Doesn't have as much definition without pumping up the EQ to be way too shrill for the bridge pickup. The pickups are just a lot more modern voiced to my ears.

HNSD! I bought my first PRS from that shop, having gone there to try out some Gibsons that were on sale! :)
