Les Pauls eh? Awesome. Iconic. RAWK™️.
Also heavy.
Lousy high fret access.
And a string angle that isn’t my bezzie mate.
But what does GAS care for such logic?
It goes PPPPFFFFFFFFTTTTT REALLY loudly.
Enter my latest sshhhwag.
An ‘89 Epiphone LP Standard. 1989 being the ONE year that ears weren’t chopped off Epi headstocks. Not a full Gibbo headstock sure. But (IMO) waaaaay better than the norm...and the kind of deep cherry burst that ticks my personal “perfect cherry burst” box
It has a few bumps but it’s in good nick for a 30 year old axe
Sounds sweet too.

Great work. Nice guitar. What are you going to do to it? ;)
Hahaha! You know me well, my friend.
This one? Nothing visual - this may be *just* an Epi but it has the perfect burst for my tastes.
The pots, in fact the full harness (see pic), needs sorting as there’s a ton of crackling and no real roll on or off of anything when you turn the knobs
And yep, probably a fresh set of humbuckers.
But other than that it’s staying as is.
:)

(The SG however...;))
*runs*

Pfft. It'll soon be painted a strange colour with graphics. I'm voting beige with images of Johnny Ball.

Because everything that draws me to rock music;
The players
The riffs
The legacy
Means that a LP is always going to be a source of GAS.
This is definitely one of those occasions of heart over brain
And when something as emotive as music is involved that’s no bad thing...
:)

P.S.
Will it stay? No idea.
I’m confident my love/hate LP cycle will keep on spinning.
But for now, I’m happy...

Ok! Well then. Cool!

I know the feeling about LP's. I like them. I like the sound. I hate the ergonomics, or lack of. I used to own a Japanese Tokai Les Paul. It's a 95-99% copy of a Gibson. Really good guitar. Couldn't get along with it. I traded it for an Ibanez K-7, which is my childhood dream guitar. I do still own a PRS Tremonti SE from 2005, which is a singlecut, and not a Les Paul in any wat possible. That one I like.

If I would buy gear by who inspired me, all my guitars would have EMG's and I would be playing a Peavey 6505. That will not work in my band. My other inspiration would mean I would have to play the K7 in my band. Also won't work, and believe me, I tried.
