What is it that you find hard about modes? I know I struggle to remember the names - ancient greek is not really my thing. But modes are pretty simple really - it's just playing from a different tonal center in order to bring out certain characteristics in the music.

I ask as I know that when I was learning them I came across a lot of bad lessons and confused explanations about what modes where and how to use them. Once you understand the properly they should be pretty simple to play - you really don't have to learn lots of scales, just know your basic diatonic scale really well and be able to shift the tonal centers around when needed.

    The easiest mode is Freudian.
The notes don't matter and the root is always sex with your mum.

I found modes much easier to 'see' with reference to a piano keyboard.
