    Hi girls :p

Since I went over to chicken pickin I've been pretty hard on my fore and index finger's nails.

A few days ago I grabbed some acrylic nails from the dollar shop and stuck them on with superglue.

Seems like I did the wrong thing! From what I gather, you just glue the tippymostbit to the end of the nail and then backbuild with some kind of gel and cure under a UV lamp. I had no idea.

Anyone got any tips? I'd prefer to do it myself than go to a salon (not that I'd mind going into a nail salon, but rather to save the $$)

I'm not sure, a dovetail joint perhaps? Maybe just superglue it on and file it down with emery cloth? ;)

I once cut a table tennis ball to shape and glued the piece on with superglue when I broke a nail one day before an important recital...

Yeah, I've heard of people using table tennis balls -- except I'm all out of table tennis balls :beaver:

BUT! I have ordered a 36w UV lamp and IBD Builder (Hard) Gel from Amazon.

Seriously, the nail artist vids on Youtube are a rabbit hole which are totally fascinating and terrifying at the same time.

UV lamp has arrived. But the Gel isn't scheduled to come until the 20th...

Hopefully by that time the acrylic nail I stuck on my rudefinger will have dropped off.

Have you walked the land mine that is unboxing children's toys on YouTube? I'm going through that one with my youngin' right now. Insane.

You seen how many VIEWS they get?
The generic-Disney-princess channel that my youngest watches gets literally tens of millions of views.

Oh yeah, it almost makes me say, "sure go ahead!" when she tells me she wants to post videos on YouTube. Almost.

Having been doing this for while now, I thought I'd give you an update.

Some tutorials don't mention Gel Primer, others say it's an option. I say, if you want the gel to stay on for more than a couple of days (and of course, you do), then gel Primer is essential.

Just remember, you need to keep track of all of this and never let this information die.
Then, if the music thing doesn't work out, you can make killer money at a nail salon.* ;)

I had a heck of a time when I trimmed my nails on my right hand, to play bass (I was trying to avoid the "pinging" sound, from my nails hitting the string every time), only to discover that I really, REALLY relied on them to play acoustic, and was absolutely lost without them.
Glad this is working out for you. I know I'd give it a try.

*Only half-joking. You really could make good money at a nail salon, probably.

    ** update **
While on holiday I found some Vaseline Hand & Nail cream.

This claims to make 10x stronger nails in 2 weeks!!
I'm giving this a try starting now.
