    My name is Cary Miller.

I'm an audio engineer (primarily mixing and mastering), multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer.

I've become a bit of an avid fan of Rob's videos, so I'm joining the forum.

    Nice to meet you all!

    - Cary

Welcome to the forum! As I am sure will be reiterated in the near future, gear pics would be appreciated.

    Oh absolutely, and Hi Robstafarian!

When I get some time between sessions I'll take some photos and run down the rig completely. Mainly I'm working in PT HD Native these days w/an Omni...though I'm debating changing that out for a Prism Titan should the funds come together. I've tried pretty much every major AD/DA converter currently out, and those two were still my top picks for lower channel counts).

I've done...I don't know how many posts on Gearslutz over the years as HERECOMESYOURMAN (*Pixies reference, so just know I like primal indie rock too, not just guitar theatrics!), so if you want to read a ton of overly-opinionated threads on EQ's, preamps, compressors, AD/DA converters, etc. I used to have a severe addiction to A/B tests to see what I like better...but I've toned that down in recent years a bit while working on my own software for mastering.

    As for recent gear snobbery...

I'm also a big big fan of STAM audio recently...I did an exhaustive A/B/Y/Etc. test of Neve clones, and their version of the 1073 preamp with the Sowter Transformer was the closest to a pair of vintage 1066's I used to own, and they're really affordable! So we're talking about swapping to about eight channels of them in the near future for basic tracking here.

I'm more private/word of mouth to hire, but I was trained by Shelly Yakus (who mixed John Lennon's Imagine, Damn The Torpedoes for Tom Petty, etc.). So I don't mind talking gear or tracking/mixing technique...anything really. I've just grown frustrated with bigger message boards that get away from searching for better sounds Vs. having the wrong discussions that get away from price Vs. performance.

It is a running gag, which I enjoy: “Listen to this dude, Rufus; he knows what he is talking about.”
