Bass "boominess"

So I've got my new Telecaster up and running pretty well. I did some fretwork this past weekend to deal with some buzz and that helped immensely. I have some new tuners, string saddles and string trees coming in because that's the kind of thing I do. However, one issue I'm having is that there's a lot of boominess on the bass strings from the neck pup. I've been looking for a simple way to deal with it. I'd prefer not to change out the pickups if I don't have to. One potential solution I've run across is to convert the two tone knobs to a G&L-style bass and treble rolloff circuit:

Has anyone done this (or have a G&L)? Can you tell me a little about the effectiveness? If I can tame the bass just by rolling a tone knob back a little bit, it would be awesome.

Also, no, I haven't tried just lowering the neck pickup yet. That's going to be the first thing I try. I just want to feel this out as an option.
