How loud do you play at home?

Good earplugs? hehe I'm looking at buying a Dunlop mini volume pedal since I don't normally run the helix on the Micro Dark and would like to be able to actually use it's gain. I can't imagine on a "real" tube amp with any significant power. Last night I was playing with it and tried just...

How loud do you play at home?

If you have a fx loop, put a volume pedal in there. The Micro Dark has no master (but no where near the output you probably have) and when I do four cable with the Helix it works fine using the Helix pedal as a master volume so I can actually USE the gain on the Micro Dark.

How loud do you play at home?

So, for the purposes of a small video I did some testing this morning. I used a phone app decibel meter so reference points are as follows. 37-40 ambient house noise and the baseline hum of the Micro Dark just being on, no high gain or anything crazy. Refigerator hum got up to around 42 or 43 at...

How loud do you play at home?

Quietly enough that a Mustang GT40 goes louder than I use most of the time. On rare occasions I'll turn whatever I'm using up past that but usually that's not with me that close so the SPL at my ears is probably not much higher, it just gets that "loud in the room" feel. I mostly play through my...

Skype & Amp Modelling setup for lessons

Light will be a big factor in how the web cam holds up. You want a LOT of light. More light equals better picture and higher shutter speed, which is NOT the same as frame rate generally. Lower frame rate means blurred movement. Less light means the camera tries to resample and boost the image...

    Thoughts on Gear and GAS

Yeah, it can get amusing sometimes. One of the first rigs I setup was with the Mandarin 80 amp model and the matching cab emulation. I was then running that through the return of my ORANGE Micro Dark. I had to do some eq fiddling to get the cab emulation to work out since my Bugera isn't...

    Thoughts on Gear and GAS

@Tankman That's almost exactly where I was at in thought process. It's why I went from a little Orange Crush model to a modeler right away when I started. I realized that I was going to want to experiment, if only to relieve boredom while I played the same things over and over learning. I didn't...

    The Helix Strand

I got distracted watching for the glasses to actually fall off. Seriously though, sounds great. I need to set up something similar, maybe tonight, but I wanna get in some straight practice time in too. I felt like hell over the weekend and didn't do much. The PJ's add a bit of a relaxed...

    The Helix Strand

If you haven't done it yet, dual track with two amps, two cabs and mixed mics. I watched a demo of it yesterday and tried it out last night. I use that system on Bias and it's just as nice this way. I am not talking about doing a stereo setup, though you could do that too. In my case I'm not...

    The Helix Strand

There's a reason polaroid is still a thing. Just sayin. I got snapshots figured out and setup a trio for what will probably be one of my main rigs. Clean with a nice touch of delay and reverb. Lightly boosted, little less delay to keep it from getting muddy. Distortion added to the boost, even...

    The Helix Strand

I started messing with Snapshots last night. I got a nice tweed rig put together and got the base clean tone with reverb and a little delay going then started working on a boosted and slightly distorted snapshot for it. I wasted a fair bit of time before figuring out that I was changing globals...

    Thoughts on Gear and GAS

For me it comes down to "can I get close enough to the sound in my head that I'm happy with it the next day?" Sure, right that second maybe I'm not able to get EXACTLY what I hear in my head, but that's true with pedals too. I just looked at the growing list and decided to cut it off before it...

    Thoughts on Gear and GAS

Sooooo, it got worse. I went and played with a Headrush, since they don't have the small units in stock around here and I would have to order. I figured I'd at least try the sound from the other brand. That got me thinking, why give up all the amp sims and such? Sure, I like having the actual...

    Thoughts on Gear and GAS

Yeah, that is what makes it so tempting. Even if I keep those two pedals, since they're pretty fundamental items, I'd probably keep them as alternate items for another setup, not on my regular board. I may literally just skip everything else and run the HX, but still with 4cs. I can just bundle...

    Thoughts on Gear and GAS

I think this is the biggest value to the HX Effects, and Line 6 was sneaky about how they trimmed the I/O on the Stomp so you basically HAVE to go with the HX if you want to use it primarily as a pedal board and not as the whole setup. Sure, there are some scenarios where you can avoid it, but...

    The Car Thread

I lease, so never old ones. I don't put enough miles on the car to have it be an issue. I'm basically a perfect example of when a lease makes sense. I always want a newish car, under warranty with a dealer that's going to either offer a good shuttle service or loaner. On the other hand, I put...

    The Car Thread

I'll play. I recently traded in my 2015 BMW 320xi for a 2018 model. The last one was all black with a bunch of toys but lacking any sport features other than me using the computer to turn on Sport + mode, which really did make a difference in feel but obviously couldn't add any power or change...

My ML3 Modern Standard - Lovin it.

Further updates. I decided to try some 9's and noticed some first fret buzz on the low E if I wasn't really gentle with it. I played around with it but short of a stupid high action it was going to be a nut change to fix and it wasn't that annoying but I kept it in the back of my head. Saturday...
